MiniMizer®-Extra Band
Advantages
1. Reduced risk of band slippage and pouch dilatation
Band Slippage and pouch dilatation are inconvenient and expensive complications of gastric band surgery. There is now data to suggest that the MiniMizer® Extra band reduces the risk of slippage and dilatation. The MiniMizer® Extra band is secured in position by means of loops, which protect against dislocation of the gastric band. Auto-attachment to the dorsal wall of the stomach is usually established in approximately 4 days, with a tissue build up in the retaining loops. The retaining loops attached to the MiniMizer® Extra exhibit enormous elasticity - up to 400% - which means that there is no risk of avulsion where the seromuscular attachment is carried out in the proper manner. The retaining loops follow the changing shape of the stomach during contractile phases and counteract any tendency towards pressure ulceration and migration.
Collet's study compared the outcome of the conventional LapBand and the MiniMizer® Extra band
The conventional LapBand had a slippage rate of 10.8%
The MiniMizer® Extra had a slippage rate of 0%

2. Two-phase closure system
The two-phase closure system allows more accurate closure of the gastric band to suit each individual patient's stomach.
