Dr Andrew Scurr, M.B.,B.S., F.R.C.A., Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Andrew Scurr was trained in medicine at Westminster Hospital Medical School, University of London. He qualified in Medicine in 1985. After a period practicing general medicine, he received higher training in Anaesthesia at the Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospitals in London. In 1991 he obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. His anaesthetic practice involves both intensive care and surgical anaesthesia with a major interest in the control of acute (post-operative) pain.
He is especially interested in the anaesthesia for laparoscopic gastric and Lapband surgery, as it is of critical importance that the risks of post-operative nausea and vomiting are kept to a minimum. To this end Dr Scurr has developed a technique with a very benign side-effect profile which contributes to the success of these operations allowing rapid recovery and the early and safe discharge from hospital.
